You may have heard about the latest smartphones or things like clear internet service and wondered what exactly “4G” was. Commercials for 4G jump out at you between shows and proudly proclaim the service’s superiority, but, without understanding what 4G is or even refers to, it can be hard getting excited about something so good. In short, 4G is the next step in mobile broadband internet, and the next step toward a world where we can accomplish all the online tasks reserved for the desktop while on the move. In other words, it lets you do more on the move.

With 4G, the intent is to no longer rely on elusive and isolated hotspots of wi-fi service. Instead, the goal is to create hotspots as large as cities themselves. In doing so, providers are able to create wider areas of coverage where we can all get the things we need to get done.

A time is coming very soon where you’ll be able to stream episodes of House while you wait for dinner at a restaurant or teleconference seamlessly from the back of a taxi cab without missing a beat. The future of wireless means more convenience and more peace of mind.

Sharing bandwidth with the rest of the family is of vital importance now that we have Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming media sources that take up a lot of bandwidth. How do you ensure that everybody in the house gets enough bandwidth to enjoy their experience on the internet?

Well the first thing you will want to do is get a quality router that will have no problem providing an excellent signal to every device in the household. Getting a router that isn’t up for the task will not allow you to share bandwidth effectively. The more devices you have, the more likely a router of bad quality is likely to crash and drop all the connections. This means that the router will have to be physically reset by somebody and everybody will be offline while this goes on. With a bad router and a lot of devices fighting for bandwidth, expect to have to reset a cheap router a few times a day.

So if you have a family and want to share bandwidth and let everybody have a great experience online, get a quality router for your network. It will allow you to share bandwidth and keep your devices from being bumped offline.

When working with a wireless system is important that you secure you wireless network. By securing your wireless network you can keep yourself and your family safe from getting important information stolen or prevent illegal activity such as music or movie downloads from taking place on your system. By following a few simple steps you will have your system protected in no time.

The first step in your wireless network is to connect your network via your browser through a Gateway IP address. Another great option to protect your system is to enable encryption on your access point. WEP connections are insecure so it is best to use a WPA connection. It is a bit more difficult to install but will provide you the additional security and peace of mind.

Setting a router access password is a great way to keep control over whom has access to your network. Typically you will only need to enter this password once so it is important to have a variety of letters and numbers so the password cannot be easily guessed. The simple step of changing the network name from the default to a personalized option will help prevent unwanted hackers. The reason for this is most people who leave the network in its default status are novices, which makes them an easy target for hackers. These few suggestions will help you keep your wireless network safe.
